With a mission to enable businesses and their customers to participate in the global economy by providing them fast and affordable cross-border payments, our client is looking to add a highly ambitious, motivated and hardworking VP of Business Development, focusing on the ECOWAS region to their team of international experts. Their Vice President of Business Development will be based in Lagos, Nigeria and will be reporting into the SVP for Africa. A key aspect to this role would be to drive partners acquisition within the ECOWAS region. The ideal candidate will come with an extensive network and be extremely well connected within the Central Banks and Mobile Wallets space. They will be autonomous, self-motivated, passionate, possess high energy and have a strong business acumen with the ability to hit the ground running in a hands-on manner.

The business prides themselves in unlocking opportunities for millions of people and businesses in emerging and developed markets by interconnecting mobile wallet operators, platforms, merchants, money transfer operators, payment service providers and banks to facilitate seamless payments.

Our client plays an integral role in what can be described as a deeply fragmented industry. As a trusted, neutral and interoperable aggregator, they offer key payment solutions to tackle the speed, cost-efficiency and accessibility challenges for emerging markets. Without our client the partners of a payment transaction would waste time and costly resources developing their connections to multiple systems. Multiple connections would also mean that these actors have to charge higher prices, which could prohibit financial inclusion and the spread of financial services.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing the overall sales and business development plan in the ECOWAS region, and eventually building a team to support the business in the region
  • Manages full sales cycle including generation of leads to managing live accounts
  • Possesses full ownership of customer requests and exploring new opportunities to add value in positioning the business
  • Oversees and manages coordination in rolling out new services to targeted partners/customers
  • Attends industry events and follow-up on source leads
  • Ensures all specific reports and records are completed within timeframe, including utilization of CRM tool
  • Provides timely feedback to line manager about performance, sales activity, account management status and strategy planned
  • Ensures satisfaction amongst existing accounts to achieve positive account retention and contractual health
  • Initiate and maintain strong working relationship with colleagues and customers to ease communication channels and facilitate resolutions for issues
  • Assists to identify trends by researching on industry, related events and announcements
  • Communicates needs of customers effectively to support team members
  • Interacts with Senior Officers within the Central Bank to facilitate approval process

Mandatory Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 5 years in a client-facing role and prior direct work experience in the cross-border payments industry
  • Experience in business development to corporates or banks or mobile wallets operators
  • Demonstrated ability and track record of delivering against targets
  • Results-oriented with outstanding communication, organisation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to interact with all levels, especially C-level, well presented and articulate
  • Superior networking skills with a sense of ownership and accountability
  • Hands-on experience with Zoho CRM is desirable
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-growth, fast-paced, high energy and team-oriented environment
  • Highly adaptable, able to accept and create change
  • Strong understanding of market dynamics and requirements
  • Strong sense of initiative and ability to work both independently and part of a team
  • Strong communicator in written and spoken English, any other native languages will be an added advantage
  • Approximate travel frequency of 50%
